"Rather than simply grafting cheesy strings to original songs, these Dutch noiseniks have bent a 20-piece orchestra to their own polyrhythmic, cacophonous needs. The result is pure sonic excess. Latinate brass fanfares slur, goaded by jagged slashing from cellos as the five members of The Ex raise a tumult. Ex Orkest is a special project, contrived, compiled and arranged by The Ex, at the request of the Holland Festival 2000. This record is a co-production of The Ex, Holland Festival, NPS Radio & TV, and Paradisolife.

Recorded live on 8th (Paradiso, Amsterdam), 9th (Vooruit, Gent), 10th (Moers Festival, Germany) and 11th June (NPS/Paradisolife, Amsterdam).

"Symfonie Voor Machines" (track 3) is based on the piece "Zavod" (The Iron Foundry) by Alexander Mossolov (1900-1973), a suite from the ballet "Stal" (Steel, Opus 19, 1926).

Released in a standard jewel case, with a 16-page booklet.
